Harindra Sirisena reminiscing about Bill Forbes

BILL FORBES

I was very happy to read Harold’s excellent article in the “Observer Magazine” of 1 January. I recall paying Rs1 (one) for a ticket and watching Bill Forbes sing at the college hall in 1961. I particularly remember “One More Sunrise “ and “Memories are made of this”. He sang perfectly with his wonderful voice.

I remember seeing a 45 rpm disc of Bill Forbes in a Jukebox in a Belgian Flemish City: and I was thrilled and proud that a Peterite   could be well known in the continent at that time (1980). I also noticed some pretty Flemish girls in Ghent who looked a lot like the beautiful burgher girls we admired when we were young. This is not surprising, since many burghers arrived here from Flanders, now a part of Belgium, and from other Dutch speaking parts of the continent.
