Membership- Any person who had been a student of St. Peter’s College and sat for the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) Examination or Senior School Certifcate (SSC), prior to 1970 or left College prior to 1970, is eligible to obtain membership.

Notice is hereby given that the 6^th Annual General Meeting of The Old Peterites' Group of Pre 1970, will be held on Friday 31^st May, 2013 at the OBU Secretariat (Ground floor – entrance through College Grounds) at 6.00 p.m.

Peterite activity in UK

Dear Peterites,

Our dynamic group of  Peterite 'new blood' , all eager to keep our BLUE WHITE GOLD, flag flying high,

have started off exceedingly well being nearly sold out of tickets for Baila Night 2013, with just 20 days

to go..!!!!. Please note that tickets will not be available at the door,,,,!!!!.

 

Peterite teams will be playing in all the following sports events and need your support - so come along

and cheer them to victory..!!!!.

SPC OBU INTER BATCH 6 A SIDE CRICKET TOURNAMENT

The inter batch 6 a side cricket tournament will be worked off at the College Grounds on Sunday, 17th February commencing at 8.30 a.m.

The Chief Guest will be Mr. Anton PereraThe teams will vie for the Gerry de Mel Trophy and the runners up will receive the Suraj Perera Trophy

Man of the Tournament/Man of the match/Best bowler/Best Batsman & best fielder will also receive trophies

·         Maximum 2 team per batch group

·         Draw will be held on 14th Thursday at college secretariat at 6.00 p.m.

·         OBUH will have the Bar open and bites will also be available

SPC OBU Helping to Improve Academic Excellence at St. Peter's.

One of the areas that Dr. Nielhaan Samaranayake wanted to focus on when he took over the Presidency of the SPC OBU, was the development of "academics" in college.  

The Academic Foundation was Chaired by Prof Rohan Jayasekera last year, and Prof., in consultation with Nielhaan, embarked on the training of teachers, which was identified as a key requirement for the enhancement of academic standards at college. Fr. Rector and the tutorial staff were offered a choice of development programs, and after many discussions and presentations, chose 2 specific areas, namely, English Language education, and "Microsoft Office" education.

In the current year, the Chairmanship of the Academic foundation has taken over by Mr. Chanaka Goonawardane and Chanaka has secured an English language course, conducted by the University of Colombo, which will train a 100 teachers at college. The Colombo Uni has already conducted an evaluation of the teachers and has tailored a course to accommodate 4 batches, catering to the various competence levels of the English language.

This training program will commence this month, February 2013.

On conclusion of this program, the Academic foundation will look at conducting the Microsoft program.

TYRONE LAYMAN (70) R.I.P.

It is with great sadness that we hear of the death of Old Peterite Tyrone Layman, brother of Spencer, in London on 2nd November, 2012.

We pray that St. Peter met him at the Gates and conducted him to Jesus to live in his care for evermore. Tyrone, a genial gentleman,from Dehiwela, left college in 1961 at age 19 and came to live in England, where he worked with other Old Peterites in the Motor Trade.

Funeral service will be at 2 pm on Monday 12th November, 2012 at the
Holy Family Catholic Church,
194 Knightfield,
Welwyn Garden City, AL8 7RQ.

followed by refreshments at the Hedgehog Pub opposite the church.

Spencer invites all Peterites to the Funeral Service, and to the Pub thereafter for refreshments, and
to remember his life and times, especially as a Peterite !!!.

To Spencer and his family we convey our sincerest sympathy and pray that God will give them the strength
in mind and prayer, to bear their loss.

May his soul rest in peace.
